frogs around town
local community activities
We regularly visit local schools, libraries, summer camps, and community events. We typically bring information about our research and the frogs, hands-on activities for all ages, and (of course) the frogs! We love to show off our cool critters to audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Check out previous events below, come see us at an upcoming event, and get in touch if you’re interested in coordinating a froggy field trip.
Our lab took part in the Science at the Market series, which highlights different scientific disciplines, often with fun activities and cool creatures for all ages. Next time you are at the market, keep an eye out for us and other cool science groups!
Urbana Farmers Market
Anita Purves
In 2022, the Fischer Lab was a part of the Anita Purves Summer Camp. As part of a lesson about the animals, campers played pretend as the frogs to demonstrate different methods of frog parental care.
Library Visits
In 2023, the Fischer Lab went to the Mahomet Public Library to share fun facts about frogs and hopefully inspire some young scientists! Check out our upcoming events to see more opportunities to meet the frogs!
Genome Day
Fischer Lab shows off at the IGB-sponsored Genome Day in Urbana, IL. Genome Day is an annual event for community members of all ages to learn about many different topics related to genes and evolution - including our research on poison frogs! If you missed last year, come visit next year!
Scovill Zoo
Fischer Lab visits the zoo! We brought our animals to the Scovill Zoo in Decatur to teach public visitors and summer camp students about our frogs.
In 2022, Fischer Lab attended the American Frog Day in Chicago. This event for breeders and hobbyists was a neat place for us to talk about our research, learn new things, and see some very cool frogs. We will definitely be back!
